The Obama Administration has once again proved to left-wing Catholics how really pro-life the President is, by announcing today that it would prohibit Indiana and other states from restricting taxpayer funding to abortionists.
Not coincidentally, Doug Kmiec now says Obama is doing a great job. I’m sure we’ll hear from other Catholyc advocates how pro-life Obama is for expanding abortion, or how paying abortionists actually reduces abortion.
Perhaps more probable, most of them will ignore the situation and continue to whine that Catholic teaching absolutely clearly excommunicates Republicans for wanting to reduce welfare spending, while remaining hopelessly ambiguous about funding and mainstreaming child-dismemberment.
Indiana’s law didn’t even cut funding to Planned Parenthood. It simply required that if Planned Parenthood wanted tax dollars, its abortions had to be done under completely separate cover. But that isn’t good enough for abortion extremists at the Obama Administration.
Where this situation goes next will be interesting. How Catholycs respond will be less objectively interesting, but will have the potential for being either surprisingly redemptive or persistently pathetic.
