Solemn Dubbing Ceremony

Order of the Ceremony

Ideally, the best date for the annual Solemn Dubbing Ceremony is on the Vigil of Divine Mercy (the Saturday evening after Easter). This draws upon the great feast, for which we receive our name, while allowing KDMs to plan and participate in Divine Mercy Celebrations the following day throughout their diocese (special note: the great mercy pope, John Paul II, died on the vigil of Divine Mercy). It is held in church, and this celebration is meant for the whole family to attend, and a potluck social is recommended as a reception following the ceremony. The order of worship can be found at the KDM website, and is available for reproduction.

Investiture: Society of the Brown Scapular

A Knight of Divine Mercy is a defender and protector of the Holy Honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary and in testament to the bond receives the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

Priest: Show us, O Lord, Thy mercy

All:       And grant us Thy salvation

Priest:  Lord, hear my prayer

All:       And let my cry come unto Thee

Priest:  The Lord be with you

All:       And with your spirit

Priest:  Lord Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, sanctify by Thy power these scapulars, which for love of Thee and for love of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Thy servants will wear devoutly, so that through the intercession of the same Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and protected against the evil spirits, they persevere until death in Thy grace. Thou who liveth and reigneth world without end. Amen.

(Blessing of the Brown Scapular)

Priest:  When you receive this brown scapular, beseech the Blessed Virgin that through her merits, you may wear it without stain. May it defend you against all adversity and accompany you to eternal life. Amen.

May God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, bless you, He who has deigned to join you to the Confraternity of the Blessed Virgin of Mt. Carmel; we beseech her to crush the head of the serpent so that you may enter into eternal heritage through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Conferring of Knighthood

In presenting himself for knighthood, the candidate affirms his desire to be a humble servant to Our Lord Jesus Christ, an ardent defender of the Holy Catholic Church and the Chair of Peter and malleable to the will of the Holy Spirit in all things.

v  Each candidate for knighthood approaches the Altar and kneels as an act of humility and submission to the Will of God.

Priest: Deo Submissus (the one who has submitted to God)

Candidate: In Deo Potens (is powerful in God)

v  The Priest lays hands upon the head of the candidate and prays in silence for Abundant Graces to be showered upon the one being knighted.

v  The candidate receives the Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in testament to his devotion and love for Mary, the Mother of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

v  The Priest confers knighthood:

Priest: (tapping candidate’s right shoulder with sword) “You are a Knight of Divine Mercy, a servant of Jesus Christ, (tapping candidate’s left shoulder with sword) a defender of the Faith, and a warrior against evil … arise Sir _________, receive your title with all humility, be empowered and equipped by the Holy Spirit.”

v  Knight of Divine Mercy is issued his Spiritual Weapons, sealed in a KDM Battle Pack.
